Review: Cleanse, Refine & Renew – Philosophy

Philosophy - skin care

Hey guys!

Another review coming at chuuuu. Right before Christmas I purchased the Cleanse, Refine & Renew gift set by Philosophy since it was a fantastic deal and I needed to repurchase my favourite cleanser anyways (I generally like to purchase gift sets because they are usually a great value).

This Cleanse, Refine & Renew set includes:

  • 8 oz Purity Made Simple (the cleansing portion)
  • 2 oz Renewed Hope In A Jar (the refining portion)
  • 1 oz The Microdelivery Peel Resurfacing Crystals (1/2 of the renewing portion)
  • 1 oz The Microdelivery Peel Gel (1/2 of the renewing portion)

In my Skin Care Routine video I mentioned the Purity face cleanser by Philosophy. I still think that it works well to clean my skin and that it is not drying like many other skin cleansers I’ve tried.

In the past I have purchased a Philosophy set that came with The Microdelivery Peel. This seems to be one of their more popular products but I didn’t notice any changes from using it. The Resurfacing Crystals contain Vitamin C which is known to brighten skin. This combined with its exfoliating properties due to the crystals and lactic/salicylic acid in the gel work to renew the skin. However, from the reviews I have read I believe this product will help your skin look more even if you have hyper pigmentation and break outs.

Lastly, the gift set comes with the Renewed Hope In A Jar moisturizer. I’m a big fan of Hope In A Jar because it was super light and moisturizing on my skin. Therefore, I was a bit skeptical of trying the renewed version. From my experience I noticed two main differences between the two moisturizers: the consistency and the residue on my skin. The consistency of the renewed version is very similar to most body lotions and face moisturizers while the original Hope In A Jar has a whipped consistency. Both versions require a similar amount to moisturize your entire face so this is not a major decision making difference. However, I found that the Renewed Hope In A Jar moisturizer left a layer on my skin that I could clearly feel when I washed my face. Therefore, I personally like the original version better and I find that it is more moisturizing.

Overall, I think this gift set is a great deal as purchasing the products alone would cost 140 Cdn instead of 89 Cdn. But if you are just looking for a specific item, I absolutely love the Purity cleanser 🙂
